You Must Be Born Again!

John 3:1-18

John 3 contains some of the best known scriptures in the world today, as well as some of the most misunderstood. Almost everyone in our country has heard the expression, "born-again"… yet most are still confused as to what it means. Nicodemus did not understand it, but Jesus explained it to him.

You must be born again (Jn. 3:3,5,7)

II. What is the nature of the new birth?

A. Not physical, but spiritual.

B. Two separate births

C. What water?

Passage

Water

Spirit

Result

John 3:5

"born of water"

"and the Spirit"

"born again"

Titus 3:5

"washing of regeneration"

"renewing by the Holy Spirit"

"saved"

Acts 2:38

"baptized"

"gift of the Holy Spirit"

"forgiveness"

What is the foundation of the new birth?

A. John 3:16 – Faith – but not faith alone.

B. Mark 16:16 – " He who believes and is baptized will be saved."

We must believe in Jesus. We must be born again. Jesus was not kidding … He was commanding. Will you obey Him?
