So much... but so much more! ... For kids of all ages! Anyone for a game of hoops? I can almost smell the food... Mmm... Now that's what I call a picnic!
This is the front of our building. Often times, this front porch is the first place that you will see a smiling face or get a friendly handshake. At the Coal Run Church of Christ, we want everyone to feel welcome! This angle view from the corner of our lot gives you just a glimpse of the whole property. However, there is far more than meets the eye, as you will soon see... Still out of sight are a parking lot (to the left) as well as large basketball court, picnic shelter, and riverbank area (all behind the building). This house is used by the church as our Youth Center. We have classes for all ages in the Youth Center, ranging from Wee Worship and Junior Church to High School and College classes. At the Coal Run Church of Christ, we have quite a large piece of property. This comes in quite useful for the many activities we have. You probably have already noticed the full-court basketball court in this shot. However, this court is also used for extra parking during our services. This shot shows you a different view of our property, as seen from the hillside behind the Youth Center. This hillside is used during one of the many scenes in our annual live nativity drama, "Journey to Bethlehem." It is here that the shepherds first hear of the birth of Baby Jesus! Living in eastern Kentucky, basketball is a way of life! At the Coal Run Church of Christ, we too love to shoot hoops. Just ask our minister, Jerry Bliffen - on any given night during the warmer months, Jerry will be out on this court, under the lights, perfecting his shot. From Spring to late in the Fall, our picnic shelter gets plenty of use. We have a picnic every month, as well as an annual all-day picnic, complete with a waterslide! Here's a view of our shelter from a different angle. See that nice, stone fireplace at the far end? It's complete with two large grills... and there have been many, many yummy hot dogs and hamburgers come off those grills. It makes me hungry just thinking about it! This is the riverbank behind the picnic shelter. Just out of sight is the Levisa Fork of the Big Sandy River. We use this area for a number of purposes, including horseshoe pitching and bonfires. Here's a view of the entire property, as best as can be seen from the riverbank. To the near right you see the picnic shelter, in front is the basketball court and Youth Center, and in the back right is the church building and the parsonage. We hope that you've enjoyed your tour of the Coal Run Church of Christ!
