Why Does God Allow Suffering?

Rom. 8:18-25

The Tsunami disaster in southern Asia caused a lot of people around the world to ask the question, "If God is love, why would He allow such a disaster and loss of innocent life?" It is a difficult question, but the Bible reveals much information to help us arrive at an answer.

I.  The creation was subjected (v. 20)

A. God cursed the earth after man sinned in the Garden of Eden.

B. No longer was everything going to be "good."

C. Nature, like man, is under a curse because of sin.

II.  The creation is suffering (v. 18)

D. Paul used the example of the pain of childbirth.

E. Everyone groans in pain to one degree or another if he lives long enough on this earth.

F. This all seems so depressing; is there any hope?

III.  The creation will be set free (v. 21)

G. We should all eagerly wait for the redemption of our bodies!

H. God will destroy the present, decaying heavens and earth, and replace it with a new heaven and a new earth. (II Peter 3:13; Rev. 21:1)

I. "There shall be no more curse." (Rev. 22:3)

We live in a cursed creation and among a cursed people. But it will not continue this way forever. There is redemption available through Jesus Christ. A new world is awaiting all those who have been made a new creation in Christ Jesus. Accept God’s redemption today in obedient faith to the good news of the gospel!
