Turning Your Back on Egypt

Mark 10:29-30; Hebrews 11:24-27

Imagine giving up your home, leaving your family behind, and giving up your career for the sake of Christ. Many Christians have done that, but it takes a lot of commitment. Today we want to consider the example of Moses and what his commitment to God led him to do.

I.  He turned his back on Egypt’s prestige (Heb. 11:24).

A. People like prestige and position.

B. We must focus on eternal rather than temporal rewards.

C. What matters most to you?

II.  He turned his back on Egypt’s pleasures (Heb. 11:25).

D. Sin is temporarily pleasurable, then payday comes (Rom. 6:23).

E. Moses chose the "ill treatment with the people of God."

F. Look ahead … to the ultimate reward.

III.  He turned his back on Egypt’s plenty (Heb. 11:26)

G. Moses "had it all" in Egypt.

H. Are we "rich?"

I. It’s not what we own, but what owns us!

In your life, does God get the "leftovers" or the "first fruits?" What will you give up to commit your all to God? Do you need to turn your back on Egypt?
