Taking Another Look At Thomas John 20:19-29 We all have come to know Thomas as "doubting Thomas." However, maybe he wasn’t as big a doubter as some have thought. Mark 16:14 reveals that at first, all the disciples were unbelievers in the resurrection of Christ. Thomas can teach us all some important lessons regarding faith and doubt. I. Absent (v. 24) A. Absenteeism is the cause of a lot of doubt today. B. Does God ever seem distant to you? II. Open (v. 25) C. There are three basic approaches to doubt: 1. A doubter and proud of it 2. Afraid to doubt anything at all 3. Willing to believe if there is enough evidence. D. Some things must be accepted by faith, not by sight.
III. Seeking (v. 28) E. Jeremiah 29:13 F. Thomas confessed his faith that Jesus was his God! We must seek in order to find. Sometimes doubt gets in our way, but we must work our way through our doubts. Be willing to dig a little deeper, check out the evidence, and then act upon your faith. Have you confessed Jesus as your Lord? Have you obeyed His gospel plan? If not, then act on your faith today! |
