Joy and Thanksgiving Nehemiah 8:8-10; 12:27, 43 After 70 years of captivity, Israel returned to its homeland. The temple and the city walls of Jerusalem were rebuilt. Then Ezra, the scribe and the Levites read the book of the law to the people and they mourned because of their sins. But the people were encouraged by their leaders to rejoice in the Lord and praise Him with thanksgiving. I. There is a joy only the Lord can give. A. Isaiah 12:1-6 B. Romans 5:1-2, 10-11 II.
