A Chosen Vessel

Luke 2:25-35

Throughout history, whenever God needed something important done on earth, He would choose a human vessel and use him or her as a special instrument in His hands. At this time of year, we normally think of Mary, Joseph, Zacharias, Elizabeth, shepherds, and magi. But today we want to consider the example of Simeon.

I.  A correct attitude toward God

A. Not all men used of God were righteous or devout.

B. Simeon was right with God --- "just."

C. Simeon was devout in worship.

II.  Man of patience

D. He was "waiting."

E. God doesn’t work according to our timetable.

F. Always be prepared to serve when He calls!

III.  Open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit

G. Simeon came "by the Spirit" into the temple

H. Does the Holy Spirit lead us into service for Christ?

I. He works through His word and His opportunities.

IV.  Understand that hardship may come with service.

J. Consider Mary and Joseph.

K. Sometimes criticism and scorn come with doing His will.

L. God did not promise it would be easy.

God desires to use YOU as His chosen vessel. He has a purpose and a plan for your life. Yield to His authority and Lordship.
